The tour
Telok Ayer Street was once a shoreline. This 2.5-hour walk explains how the temples along it served the Chinese immigrants and seafarers who landed there, and what remains of that waterfront history.
The tour starts at Thian Hock Keng, 158 Telok Ayer Street, on Sunday 29 November 2026 at 2pm, and finishes at 4:30pm. It is run by HeyLadTour as part of Singapore HeritageFest 2026.
The route covers Thian Hock Keng, Singapore's oldest Hokkien temple, and the Mazu tradition behind it. The guide explains the imperial scrolls in the temple and the 36 titles Mazu received over 700 years, and looks at the motifs, reliefs and architecture that date the district to the 1800s.
Tickets and access
Tickets are S$30 through Eventbrite. Children under 14 must come with a parent or legal guardian. Doors open at 2pm and the tour leaves promptly. There are no refunds.
Paid parking is available nearby. The temple is a short walk from Telok Ayer MRT. Wear covered shoulders and knees, since this is an active place of worship.
