Job Description

The Therapist works with families and individuals to better understand their social and psychological needs. He/she may be given cases that are complex and/or referred by key service stakeholders (e.g. doctors, nurses, counsellors, family service centres, Homes, etc.). He/She is responsible for helping clients develop skills, access resources, and tap on support services for multifaceted issues, including violence, addiction, delinquent behaviour, marital, and mental health problems.

In addition to counselling duties, the Therapist will be assigned clinical training and consultations duties.

The incumbent is expected to work a total of 40 hours per week. He/she is also required to work 2 nights a week (Mondays and Wednesdays). He/she is largely expected to work in an office environment, although he/she may also be required to travel out of the office for appointments.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Receive and manage complex case referrals from key stakeholders (e.g. family service centres, hospitals, homes, lawyers).
  • Engage individuals, families, and significant others in therapeutic relationships to assess needs.
  • Apply systemic concepts and evidence-based techniques for case assessment and intervention.
  • Prepare clinical reports and represent cases in supervision and case conferences.
  • Provide clinical supervision to in-house therapists and external practitioners.
  • Provide individual and group clinical consultation to enhance practitioners’ competencies.
  • Conduct clinical training programmes and supervision.
  • Evaluate and update training curricula to ensure relevance to current social service needs.
  • Present papers at seminars and conferences.
  • Conduct public talks and psycho-educational workshops for professionals and the general public.
  • Identify gaps and emerging trends in clinical practice.
  • Design and conduct research and qualitative studies for local and international publications.

The role reports to the Clinical Director.

Experience:
At least 4 years of experience in counselling individuals, couples and families independently.

Competency Requirements

  • Familiarity with the systemic framework and have been employing systemic concepts and perspectives in clinical practice.
  • Possesses emotional maturity, empathy and ability to be self-reflexive in working with clients.
  • A good team player with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Preferably attained certification as a registered counsellor/supervisor with the Singapore Association for Counselling.
  • Preferably have attained certification in Systems Approach in Family and Marital Therapy by an accredited institution.
