By chance found this lei cha stall in the crowded hawker centre at Chinatown. Pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of the food. The soup is a little bitter on it’s own but paired well when mix with the rice. Friendly stall owner

Hakka Fun HamCha & Yong Tou Fu offers authentic Lei Cha (Thunder Tea Rice) and Yong Tau Foo, featuring fresh ingredients and traditional Hakka flavors. It provides a wholesome and satisfying dining experience.

Tried the Lei Cha with brown rice. The soup had a handmade earthy, fragrant and rich in flavor. However, it leaned on the saltier side, especially with the addition of the preserved radish. I was hoping for a cleaner, more refreshing profile to match the usual healthy feel of Lei Cha. The roasted peanuts added a lovely crunch and depth to the texture.

I have not tried all leicha in Sg, but this is definitely my favourite. The tea taste is very balanced, no overpowering herbs or leaves taste. The rice ingredients have enough crunch from the nuts, seeds and vege etc. Even for first-timer who have not tried leicha, I think it’s able get them “addicted” as well. Definitely no need acquired taste for it. Can add some fried yong tau foo as sides. Very fulfilling and healthy meal.

Was looking for thunder tea rice near my workplace and this was one of the places I found. Came here at around 3pm on a Friday and they were sold out but I managed to return and try on a Sunday at 11am as another stall we wanted to eat at was not open.
I have been eating lei cha for more than a decade now and I really liked their version. I like my cha without water and the boss even warned me that they made theirs stronger, but it was alright for me. Their hand made Hakka yong tau foo is also freshly fried upon order, so the whole meal is a delight.
I strongly recommend this stall if you want to give thunder tea rice a try.

Located in Chinatown Complex, stall #02-123.
Price: $5.00 (Lei Cha Brown Rice)
The ingredients of the Lei Cha (Thunder Tea Rice) includes firm beancurd, sweet chye poh (preserved radish bits), long beans, stir fried cabbage and carrots, mani cai (sweet leaf), chye sim, dried shrimp and toasted peanuts, finished with a sprinkle of sesame. Tea soup is different from the strong basil based ones. The tea soup here is savoury and has a hint of bitterness, likely from the choices of herbs used in the tea soup blend. Still a very tasty bowl of Lei Cha.
Service was fast when it came to my turn to order but since the stall also sells yong tou fu, it can amount to some waiting time in the queue when people also order the yong tou fu with their lei cha. Completely understandable as the stall owners refries the yong tou fu so that it is served piping hot.
The stall owner couple were very lively and friendly which made the hawker experience feel not so transactional. It felt that they genuinely want you to try the amazing food they had painstakingly prepared.
The stall is located in a very busy hawker centre so definitely come before the lunch crowd. Even though it was raining very heavily today, the hawker centre was still very crowded. Have also updated the opening hours of the stall, but do check out their Facebook to avoid disappointment as they do not have a fixed rest day.

This is a bit of a hidden gem within the food complex cuz it's slightly hidden by a pillar. Opened by a young couple and you can literally taste the effort being put in, from the quality of the ingredients to the umami taste of the yong tau foo. Be sure to try the self-made chilli sauce, tangy and yummy. By far the best combination of healthy and satisfying I have tried in a Lei Cha so far. Well done guys.

Really loved their very herbal thick soup which had a very pleasant bitterness that made the entire dish so enjoyable when mixed with the rice and veggies. What was a bonus is that but their homemade yong tau fu was super good as well - in fact, one of the nicest yong tau fu I had recently.
Will be back again fo sure when I have my cravings again :)

HamCha is Hakka for leicha if you are wondering about the stall name. The leicha soup here is authentic Hakka HamCha, the best I had in SG.
The YTF is not bad, they do use pork for the filling like most Hakkas but I prefer if the filling is firmer. The stuffed mushroom was great with the shitake mushroom very firm with good bite. My only complain is that they do not reheat the YTF before serving.

I am always looking for Hakka Lei Cha Rice when I’m back in Singapore. This is one of the best I’ve had, and I’d happily return in the future.
The tea is thick with herbs and they are generous with the vegetables served with brown rice. I enjoyed the crunchy textures and balanced flavours, and it was not too salty. I also tried their homemade stuffed yong tau foo and egg with cai po (pickled mustard). Their homemade chilli sauce - which the young man pointed out with pride - had a good level of spice and vinegar, and went well with the yong tau foo.
