It's a recreational park in Chinatown. In the late 1970s , it's used for the many various Community Events.
The Speakers' Corner was established on
2 September 2000.
1n the 1960s and 1970s, the Chinese Operas
were performed at the Park.
During the 1940s[ the Hong Lim Green ] i.e. the Japanese Occupation, it's the venue for
story telling performances.
In the 1950s and 1960s, the green was used
as a cricket ground by the members of the
Singapore Chinese Recreation Club and
the Singapore Cricket Club.

It's basically an empty plot of land unless an event is occurring such as the annual Pink Dot event, which I attended for the latest version (Pink Dot 2017). It was quite eye-opening and fun as well. A note though, foreigners aren't allowed into Speaker's Corner at Hong Lim Park, a government policy. It's Singaporeans and PRs only, sorry tourists! 😦
