A definite must visit location in Singapore. I visited today and really enjoyed the familiar hustle and bustle of every Chinatown I've ever been to. There are plenty of restaurants and specialist shops here selling clothes, durian and other items. As always this brings history, culture and good food together so highly recommend a visit.
Chinatown is a bit like a combination of Chinese Commodity Market and Food Street. The building facades are more colorful, and the Nanyang arcades that provide shade and shelter from the rain make it more convenient to walk through.
A really nice area to visit. It is big, a lot of places to walk around, variety of food options and souvenir shops and so on. Loved the vibe and atmosphere. Pretty fun to walk around especially at night when if feels the most lively. The shops also have cheap items to buy as souvenirs.
BEWARE: THE DRINK VENDING MACHINE WILL EAT YOUR CHANGE. Otherwise, the services inside are very good but will not provide any refunds as they do not own the machine despite providing power to it. If the machine eats your change you will need to call the number for support. Good luck on that! If you are thirsty it's cheaper to go to a nearby store to buy a drink.
Called into Chinatown Visitor Centre on Friday 6 Dec with a simple enquiry. Two people behind the desk, one was on her phone and ignored us completely, the other, a young man, continued to use his PC keyboard while asking us what we needed and giving a three word reply without even looking up. Lack of interest was obvious.
I was exploring chinatown, saw this centre and decided to stop to look for a map but I was surprised by all the cute souvenirs and finished to stay there for 30 min. There are a lot of cute and particular postcards and posters, as well as the classic souvenirs like pens and mugs. I really liked the innovative design and colors!
