What more can I say after all the reviews here. Worth queuing for 25 mins. Love the beehoon and the ikan bilis. Soft and crunchy at the same time.😋

Have not eaten from this stall for at least 8 years. There is always a long line queuing to buy the yong tow foo from here. You either order the dish with or without noodle and you can add additional ingredients. The food is very nice and sells out early. Soup is clear but flavourful. The unique thing here is that you get half a spoon of crispy ikan bills with every order. Service is OK.

This heritage stall, a nostalgic throwback to Yong Tau Foo, is often sold out early. While many Hakka stalls have modernised their offerings that blurred the line between Mala and Yong Tau Foo, this stall maintains a classic approach that may not appeal to everyone. Their menu is simple: four pieces with carbs for $4 or five pieces without carbs for $3.50. I opted for four pieces option and added premium pieces of bitter gourd and eggplant for $0.80 each. The soup was sweet and I enjoyed the plain noodles without any seasoning. The ikan bilis topping lightly flavoured the noodles, which was a nice touch. Overall, I found this to be an above average bowl of Yong Tau Foo. The only letdown is the diluted chilli which I think they probably do better without it. As a Huizhou Hakka, I'm used to pork-based fillings, but this fish paste was surprisingly good. It was fresh and didn't taste like store-bought ones, which I really dislike. Tips: If you want to avoid missing out, try going early in the day. The queue time on weekday late morning is only about 20 minutes, as they prepare the food upon order.

If you're into YTF, this is actually a hidden gem here at Chinatown Complex hawker centre. The good thing is that they make their Yong Tau Foo ingredients fresh, and cook it fresh in front of you. It's definitely a delightful sight when you walk past the many uncles and aunties eating from the same YTF stall, as if it's like a school canteen stall. Prices are very reasonable, even if you were to add and top up ingredients. I ended up with a dry beehoon noodles, with extra bittergourd and eggplant. Despite the consistently long queues, it moves fast, and orders are straightforward. So fret not, you can and should just queue in any case.

In December 2022, I was introduced to this wildly popular stall by Kelvin (@durians_direct). Since then, I have not had the pleasure of their food again due to the stall’s perpetual queues proving too daunting. However, recently, luck was on my side and the queue was of a reasonable length, so it took me only about twenty minutes of standing in line. There are several reasons why I consider their “Yong Tau Fu” to be one of the best around. Leading the list: the fishballs, as well as the fish paste used as stuffing for ingredients that include soft beancurd, beancurd skin, bittergourd, brinjal, etc. They possess a fresh clean taste, and a unique fluffiness. Interestingly, you won’t see the ubiquitous maroon-coloured sweet sauce anywhere here because their version of the classic hawker dish leans towards the savoury. I am all for it since I only ever go for the sambal / chilli sauce anyway. Speaking of which, Xiu Ji’s chilli sauce, a bright orangey-red concoction, is tantalisingly spicy, bold in garlic, and balanced with a tangy edge. In other words, it is easy to get hooked on. Especially when said sauce complements the signature topping of salty-sweet and chewy ikan bilis (dried anchovies) in every bowl of their YTF like nobody’s business 😋😋 My advice is to arrive early (before 11am is great) if you don’t wish to be disappointed, and accept that queuing is inevitable. But trust me, at the prices they are charging, it is totally worth it.
