Amazing dish overall (and also extremely rare), nice wok hei and great rough texture of the hor fun 🥘
Resembles fried oyster but with sorta more substance, the oysters are of decent size and feel too! (opted for both prawns and oysters)
First time trying chye poh hor fun and it's surprisingly yummy!
Freshly fried upon order. It's hor fun with eggs, lots of chopped chye poh , a few prawns and pork lard. Definitely full of wok hei and the charred parts at the bottom is delicious 😋💯
Decent portion and ingredients; but the taste of the chye poh wasn't as strong as I had expected.
Would eat this again 👍
A tasty dish of preserved veg hor fun by a conscientious chef with years of experience under his belt. I appreciate that he still takes the effort to ensure consistency in each plate of hor fun served by not frying more than two portions each time to maintain the right wok hei-ness.
Have been enjoying this dish by uncle since his days in Empress Market aka Farrer Road Hawker centre.
$6 order here with four mid-size prawns, filling enough for a meal. Despite the use of cai por, preserved veg in this dry fry hor fan, the flavour is not salty nor does it leave me thirsty at the end of the meal. Hor fun does not tastes oily too.
Texture and flavours holds well even for takeaways.
No digital payment available, cash only for now.
Also, do take note there is another copy-cat stall a stone throw away in another colour section touting the same menu. Go for the real McCoy I would suggest. 😉
Ah Poh was the head chef at dean cafe in toh guan, Jurong East years ago. And we patronised him weekly back then.
We loved his tze char dishes back then, salted egg crab, wine infused egg custard flower crab, steamed cod fish etc.
Now he has left and found his own stall here at china town complex. What a nostalgic place,. I remembered my uncle stalling his pick up truck here while winding down the carpark. Hahahah!
Back in those day's , helping to push start a car was a common affair.
Anyways, we came here to try his chai poh eggs and chai poh horfun.
It was excellent.
He pan fried the horfun with caipoh eggs to crispiness. Reminds me of the Bukit timah market carrot cake that is pan fried till crispy type.
The oyster horfun taste like orlua without the pesky gluey starch. Haha. Not bad.
He is such a kind hawker, keeps telling us to patronise and order food from nearby stalls too. Hahaha. Keeps telling us this datll food is nice, this stall just opened, can try supporting them etc. Wow.
Reminds me of his prev years at dean cafe. Damn nice! Hahahah.
Second visit to this stall. First time was closed but saw the uncle as he said he hurt his hand.
Finally got the chance to try it. A pretty unique dish, quite a bit of wokhei, price is a little expensive but hey there are 4 prawns on the plate.
It's like eating an extended version of carrot cake. Love the crunchiness of the chye poh in the dish. The hor fun was also fried with some crispiness on some parts in the dish.
Would love to visit and try the prawn paste chicken next time. For now it's too much to order for 1 person.
saw online about this particular stall in Chinatown smith street hawker Centre that sells preserved turnip Hor Fun. Notice on their signboard that they have only 3 items on the menu. the cai por hor fun comes in either prawn or oyster and its SGD$6 as well as the prawn paste chicken.
Ordered their horfun with prawn. The stall owner fry the horfun individually and upon order. He fry the horfun skillfully, alot of smoke emitted from the wokhei.
Taste wise, strong wok hei taste and the cai po taste is prominent. if i didn't remember wrong, there was 4 prawns inside the horfun. Portion wise, the horfun could be more.
Preserved veg hor fun is a unique and exciting dish that will tantalize your taste buds. Upon your first bite, you will immediately recognize the familiar flavor of fried white carrot cake. However, the unmistakable texture and taste of hor fun will quickly remind you that you are in for a completely different culinary experience. Trust me, this dish will not disappoint and will undoubtedly satisfy your cravings for something new and delicious.
Unique dish and only you can find here. Horfun fried with egg and preserved vegetable and some prawns added. Very flavourful, crispy and loaded with wok hey taste. $6 a plate. If you are a tourist, do try out this stall. No regrets.
