If you’re craving an authentic, traditional dessert in Singapore, the Old Amoy Chendol at Chinatown Food Centre is a must-try. The star of the bowl is undeniably the gula Melaka—thick, luxuriously fragrant, and brimming with the deep, caramel-like richness that only quality palm sugar can deliver. It strikes a perfect balance, sweetening the dish without overwhelming the palate. The chendol itself is a harmonious blend of textures and flavors: the pandan-infused jelly strips are soft yet springy, mingling with creamy coconut milk and finely shaved ice that melts into a silky pool. Every spoonful feels refreshing, especially with the subtle bitterness of red beans adding contrast to the sweetness. Simple yet expertly crafted, this dessert is a nostalgic treat that hits all the right notes. For those seeking a classic chendol experience with standout gula Melaka, Old Amoy’s version is a delightful indulgence. A sweet testament to tradition! Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5 – Deductions only for limited seating, as the flavors shine!)

The tapioca, brown sugar sauce, and the pandan paste are all gluten-free and does not appear to have peanut or nut products. The overall taste is quite pleasant especially to cool down on a hot day. There is ice underneath so it does melt quite quickly in Singapore so do eat this traditional dessert before too long.

Old Amoy Chendol’s Gula Melaka(Palm Sugar) is rich and fragrant, complementing their smooth chendol, creamy coconut milk, and tender red beans perfectly. Sweet-but-not-too-sweet, this old-school dessert is a must-try at Chinatown Food Centre—especially refreshing after a savoury meal on a hot day.

One of my go-to spots for authentic chendol! The Old Amoy stall has a few outlet but this one is always consistent. The ice shavings are incredibly fine, and the gula Melaka syrup is rich and fragrant—absolutely delicious. It's cheap, satisfying, and definitely a must-try when you're visiting this food centre.

If u are in Chinatown Area, and crave for some cold dessert. This is the place. They have 2 stalls… but I usually go to this stall after my chicken rice lunch…as this stall is less crowded. This chendol is the old school Chinese version. Not Malay style chendol. And I like it.

The Chendol is very old-school and very traditional - with the recipe dating back to 1950. And all of the components that make up the Chendol were very good when my friend and I had them today. And it is reasonably priced at $2.80 each. Service at this stall was friendly and the dining ambience was what you would expect at an old hawker centre that is in need of refurbishment - but some would say that that it is why the place has a nostalgic charm about it.

This is a chain of stalls that sells Chendol. Chendol is a local dessert that’s served cold. Essentially, it’s a heap of shaved ice served in a bowl, topped with cold pressed coconut milk, chendol (green worm like Pandan jelly), red beans and Gula Melaka. Their Gula Melaka is charcoal brewed. Mix them all up and savor each mouthful. 😋 I like that they put up a sign in front of their stall which describes what goes into their Chendol. Great local dessert for a hot day or after your meals. 👍🏻

Had a bowl this morning & it was delicious. The pandan jelly was soft & fragrant, the coconut milk rich & creamy & the gula melaka added a deep, caramel-like sweetness that tied it all together nicely. The adzuki beans were tender & flavourful, cooked to a thick, almost paste-like consistency.

The chendol was okay, nothing really special or memorable. It tasted fine but didn’t really stand out. It was refreshing enough for a hot day, but I wouldn’t call it a must-try. If you happen to be nearby and want a simple dessert, it does the job.

My favourite chendol place but the quality had dropped when I had it yesterday. The green jelly was soft and tasteless and some red beans were hard. Price has also increased a few times over the past 3 years or so from $2 to $2.50 then $2,80 while serving remains the same. Chinatown being an elderly centric place, stall owner should consider not increasing the price so frequently. With this type of price tag and quality, I can get the same thing elsewhere.
