Cheong fun here is rolled ribbon-style, and as such has thicker folds. Despite the thickness, it still maintained a slippery, melt-in-mouth texture with slight chew, very good. Plain ccf comes with three sauces, topped with sesame seed and spring onion. Soy sauce was light, balanced, and not overwhelming of salty or sweet. Peanut sauce slightly sweet. Chilli sauce unremarkable and too runny. Presentation, peanut, and chilli sauce can be improved. Had to ask for more peanut sauce as original amount given too little. Mid-price for hawker fare, can try.
Ordered a plain Cheong Fun with Century Egg Porridge. Typical Hong Kong Style breakfast, would have been more Hong Kong if there was Fish Skin.
Porridge's texture was creamy and smooth, ingredients in the porridge was well prepared and marinated in advance. There wasn't a hint of porky smell in the meat or meatball. The timing was well controlled.
Cheong Fun was handmade, soy sauce used should had been prepared by Chef Leung. There was taste of soy, but it was not over-powering. Cheong Fun was topped off with a dash of what taste like Peanut and Sesame sauce that further accentuate the overall taste.
For take-away, it had been noted that their porridge do not thicken up after 1h.
Specially make a trip to try their Chee Cheong Fun after seeing many online advertising and review on social media.
I ordered the plain and cha siew version, plus a seafood porridge.
The chee cheong fun is smooth with the right sauce to go with it. My personal preference will be the plain one if you want a real taste of it, it also came with optional sesame sauces that goes well too. The seafood porridge is nice with lots of ingredients including prawn and sotong. Maybe what is missing in the porridge is a egg and white pepper for me. I order a youtiao from the nearby store to add onto the porridge, this really increased the taste of the porridge further.
Will recommend others to give it a try and support our hawker fares.
Really soft cheong fun. I tried the egg cheong fun ($3.70) and the 皮蛋瘦肉粥($5) which was really huge. I took 45 minutes to finish my breakfast.
You can see from my photos how big the porridge was and it was full of ingredients (3 pork balls, pork slices and century egg). The porridge is not as sticky as cantonese style congee. Instead it is a bit less viscous.
Chee cheong fun tasted ordinary. The texture was too soggy, sauce was rather bland and diluted, and the amount of prawns was meagre. Not sure why it was served in disposables even for dine-in. Already sold out by 10am though.
Had the watercress fish congee & plain steamed rice rolls this morning - both were delicious. The congee was smooth & comforting with generous chunks of fish & a refreshing hint of watercress. The rice rolls were silky-soft with a light, chewy texture & a nice rice fragrance, complemented by the house-made sauces. Handmade Hong Kong-style breakfast done right.
I am wowed by this stall. There is endless flow of patrons ordering yet the food is dished out very quickly and still delicious.
Portion is so huge even for a big eater like me, trust me that bowl for congee can feed a family of 2 adult and 1 child if they are average eaters. The congee is so big that i had difficulty finishing because of the cheongfun i ordered. Congee came with tenderloin pork slices so thin and soft that you think you are swallowing chewy sweet thats flattened. Came with a few handmade porkball now thats the interesting thing. No tricks to mask its freshness just pure pork, no chesnut, ginger, garlic, pepper whatsoever. Pure ingredients, pure freshness. The cheongfun is also too big, usually other handmade cheongfun stalls are very stingy and also take a long time to do. Theirs are such a big portion adequate for two, and the concoction of the taste is just nice. Not too overly salty, yet not bland.
They also serve carp congee and pork rib congee, can see its very popular.
Cheong fun noodles are freshly made to order here. At 8.40am on a Friday, there was already a crowd formed and waiting for their food. Wait time is 10mins. I would recommend to skip the chilli here. It’s spicy and watery (would prefer those drier and with 虾米kind). Shrimps were disappointingly small. Noodles themself are very silky smooth. Might visit again for the original version without chilli added.
