The Singapore Chinese Orchestra closes its 30th anniversary season at the SCO Concert Hall on Saturday 21 November 2026 at 7.30pm. The concert runs 90 minutes with an intermission. Quek Ling Kiong conducts.
Two works, thirty years apart
The programme opens with Overture - Step Up and Up by Phoon Yew Tien, a Cultural Medallion recipient. The orchestra first played it at its inaugural concert thirty years ago, so the gala starts with the piece that started the orchestra.
The second half is the world premiere of Lion City Symphony by Law Wai Lun, commissioned for SCO30. The work runs in five movements and traces Singapore's story from the orchestra's own vantage point. Premieres are the reason to go: after 21 November the piece enters the repertoire and the first performance is gone.
Tickets
Seats are priced at $20, $40, $60 and $90. The 30 per cent concession applies to Category 3 only, for children aged 6 to 12, students, seniors aged 60 and above, NSF and persons with disabilities. Concession tickets are non-transferable and checked at the door.
Group bookings of 10 or more go through the SCO box office at 6557 4034 or 6557 4085, or boxoffice@sco.com.sg. Schools can use the Tote Board Arts Grant to cover up to half of the ticket price, excluding GST.
If you go
The hall is at 7 Shenton Way, inside the Singapore Conference Hall. It is about a 15-minute walk from Chinatown MRT, and the nearest Thomson-East Coast line station is Shenton Way. The hall is wheelchair-friendly and assistance dogs are welcome; accessible seats and companion seats are arranged through the box office.
Children below 6 are not admitted, and anyone aged 6 and above needs a ticket. Latecomers wait until a pause or the intermission. Non-flash photography on a phone is allowed; recording equipment and food and drink are not.
Arrive 15 minutes early. The 7.30pm start is tight for anyone coming from the office, and the foyer fills quickly on gala nights.
